aprilia rs 125 engine 122 rotax

The 123 Rotax was the first single cylinder nicosil plated 2 stroke engine to be fitted to the AF1
Although similiar in design to the later 122 rotax  the 123 machine was very different in many ways.

The ignition timing set up for this engine was  fully deristricted to the point where there was no cdi to deristrict due to the fitting of the one unit coil system which was a combined coil and single curve unit.

The fly wheel was a magnetic unit with a inner magnetic strip running around the inner edges of the fly wheel.
This fly wheel worked with the solid plastic encased generater winding that had outer pick ups to generate the the voltage required.

The inner crank cases on these earlier 123 Rotax engines (kw type 123 created more crank case compression than the later 122 kw that was to take over from the early type 123 kw engine.

The gear box on the 123 Rotax was built very different and i would say this gear box was a little more complicating than the 122 engine gears.

Both engines are very easy to rebuild for a guy like me who has owned over 300 of these bikes and of all ages and designs.

It always helps to take ,photo's or record your self taking the engine apart so you know where the parts go when rebuilding.
